America PAC – FactCheck.org

Political leanings: Pro-Republican

2024 total spending: $261.2 million

America PAC is a super PAC that was created in 2024 by the world’s richest person, Elon Musk, who co-founded Tesla and SpaceX, and owns the X social media platform.

In a July 2024 interview, Musk said the idea behind America PAC is “to promote the principles that make America great in the first place.” In a post on X that month, Musk wrote that “key values of the PAC are supporting a meritocracy & individual freedom,” which he said Republicans “mostly, but not entirely” support.

More than half of the $261.2 million the super PAC reported spending during the 2024 election cycle went to helping elect Donald Trump, whom Musk endorsed for president. The group also spent millions of dollars backing the House and Senate campaigns of other Republicans.

According to its most recent quarterly filing with the Federal Election Commission, America PAC, as of June 30, had raised more than $50.3 million for the 2026 election cycle — almost all donated by Musk or his United States of America Inc. — but spent only about $87,000 on independent expenditures supporting federal candidates (two Republicans who won special elections in April 2025 to represent Florida congressional districts). Independent expenditures are advertisements and other communications that expressly advocate for or against candidates for office.

Musk had said at an economic forum in May 2025 that he planned to “do a lot less in the future” in terms of political spending. “I think I’ve done enough,” he said.

However, this past July, the New York Times reported that Musk finally planned to get involved in the 2026 midterms and had “authorized his super PAC to spend $100 million to $120 million on a new field program in at least eight states to help elect Republicans in November, according to two people briefed on the plans, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the private deliberations.”

The Times said America PAC planned to initially focus on Senate races in Alaska, Iowa, Maine, Michigan and Ohio, and was considering spending in North Carolina, Georgia and Texas. The group is also expected to spend on House races in California, Wisconsin and Washington.

Axios reported that the effort would be led by Chris Young, a Republican political operative and adviser to Musk, and “will focus on door-knocking, digital advertising and direct mail aimed at turning out the conservative base,” particularly Republican voters who often skip the midterms.

The Times said that America PAC is “closely coordinating” its field campaign work with two other conservative groups, Americans for Prosperity and the Sentinel Action Fund.

Of the ads the super PAC has run so far, a number have attacked Democratic Senate candidates on transgender issues. America PAC had spent more than $3.7 million on mostly digital or streaming ads, as of Sept. 23, according to the ad-tracking service AdImpact.
