Obama vs Trump: The Iran Deal

Let’s do a side-by-side comparison, MAGA — because the contrast between what a competent president accomplished through diplomacy and what your guy just delivered through war is so staggering it deserves to be stated as plainly as possible.

THE OBAMA IRAN DEAL (JCPOA), 2015:

Iran shipped 25,000 pounds of enriched uranium out of the country, dismantled and removed two-thirds of its centrifuges, removed the calandria from its heavy water reactor and filled it with concrete, and provided unprecedented access to its nuclear facilities. The White House

International inspectors from the IAEA were continuously monitoring every element of Iran’s declared nuclear program and verifying that no fissile material was being covertly moved to build a bomb. If inspectors became aware of a suspicious location, Iran agreed to allow access to any site they deemed suspicious — from uranium mines to enrichment facilities. The White House

The Arms Control Association confirmed that “many of the JCPOA provisions also extend beyond 15 years. Monitoring of centrifuge production facilities continues for 20 years, and monitoring of uranium mines and mills continues for 25 years. IAEA inspectors will have enhanced access indefinitely.” FactCheck.org

The Strait of Hormuz? Before the US-Israeli war on Iran, the Strait of Hormuz was open and about 25% of the world’s seaborne oil trade and 20% of the world’s liquefied natural gas passed through it freely. Wikipedia No tolls. No Iranian military escorts. No permission required. Just open.

Americans killed: zero. Iranians killed: zero. Bombs dropped: zero. Cost to taxpayers: zero.

Iran was boxed in, monitored, verified, and compliant — without firing a single shot.

THE TRUMP IRAN “DEAL,” 2026:

The Strait of Hormuz? Iranian officials have demanded ships pay a toll of up to $2 million per vessel to Tehran for safe passage — a step that could generate up to $100 billion a year for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which is responsible for Iran’s ballistic missile program. MS NOW The CEO of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company said it plainly: “Let’s be clear: the Strait of Hormuz is not open. Access is being restricted, conditioned and controlled. That is not freedom of navigation. That is coercion.” CNBC

Nuclear enrichment? Iran’s parliamentary speaker stated that any attempt to limit Iran’s enrichment of uranium would fail. Wikipedia Iran’s ceasefire demands include formal acceptance of its enrichment program — and the status of Iran’s nuclear stockpile remains deeply unresolved.

International inspectors? Iran’s 10-point ceasefire proposal makes no binding guarantee to allow international inspectors — it demands an end to all IAEA resolutions against Iran. Al Jazeera

Sanctions? Iran’s demands include the lifting of all primary and secondary sanctions, the release of all frozen Iranian assets, and full compensation for damages suffered during the war. Al Jazeera

And Iran claimed outright victory, asserting it had forced the U.S. to accept its demands. Wikipedia They’re not wrong.

Now the human and financial cost of Trump’s approach:

Thirteen American service members confirmed dead. Approximately 373 wounded — five of them seriously. Time Real people. Real families. Real funerals.

As of April 7, human rights organizations documented at least 3,636 deaths in Iran due to U.S.-Israeli strikes — including 1,701 confirmed civilians. At least 15% of total casualties were under the age of 18. Wikipedia

The financial cost: Pentagon budget costs alone run approximately $28 billion, according to CSIS senior adviser Mark Cancian, including the cost of forces, munitions, and losses to bases and aircraft. NPR When broader economic impacts are included — oil price shocks, supply chain disruption, and consumer costs — independent analyses put the total figure at $43 to $48 billion and climbing, at a burn rate of roughly $1 billion per day. Universe Discovery Penn Wharton Budget Model estimates the overall cost to taxpayers at $65 billion for direct military operations alone. Al Jazeera

Oil prices jumped 10–13% in early trading when the strait was disrupted, and at one point Dubai crude reached $166 per barrel — its highest on record. Wikipedia Every American felt that at the gas pump.

Here’s the part that should make every MAGA voter physically ill:

Trump spent years calling the Obama deal the worst deal ever made. He tore it up in 2018. After the U.S. withdrew, Iran accelerated its uranium enrichment, limited inspector access, and moved closer to developing a nuclear weapon than before the deal existed. Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation Trump created the crisis he then went to war to solve — and ended up with worse terms than what Obama negotiated for free.

Iran has now seized control over the Strait of Hormuz, discovering a new piece of leverage over the world economy that it did not have before this war began. CNN As one senior Iran analyst put it: “Despite weeks of bombing, Iran is in a stronger position now that it has demonstrated it can close the strait.” MS NOW

Obama got verified nuclear compliance, a fully open strait, zero casualties, and zero cost — through diplomacy.

Trump got a closed strait with a $2 million toll, an unresolved nuclear program, 13 dead Americans, thousands of dead Iranian civilians, and a bill approaching $65 billion — through war.

And Iran is stronger now than when it started.

Five-dimensional chess. Art of the Deal.

Go ahead and explain to the families of those 13 service members how this was worth it. Explain to the American taxpayers funding a war that made Iran more powerful and more profitable. Explain to the world watching us threaten civilian infrastructure and call the Iranian people “animals” how America is still the beacon of freedom and human rights.

You broke it. You own it.

Every last catastrophic, incompetent, blood-soaked dollar of it.
